This feature enables buyers to make an optional donation at checkout to help offset fees charged by the credit card processor.

How It Works

When a buyer pays with a credit card, they can choose to add a donation based on the configured rate applied to their total payment amount. This feature applies to all credit card payments across all AES applications, including microsite ticketing, mobile bidding, event manager, and auction conductor.

Cash and check payments are excluded from this functionality.
Configuration

Configure this feature under Setup > App Settings > Checkout.

The recommended rate is 3.62%, based on averages we see when all card types are accepted. If you are not accepting American Express, the correct rate to enter here will be 3.50%.

The donations collected via this feature are an approximation, and will be close to, but not exactly mirror your actual credit card processing fees. Actual fees are based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to number of attempts including declines, chargebacks, annual fees, etc.

You must select one of three options for how the fee offset appears to buyers:

  • Required - The fee is automatically added and cannot be removed by the buyer.
  • Encouraged - The fee is added by default, but buyers can choose to remove it
  • Optional - Buyers must actively select the fee to add it to their payment
Check your local laws before requiring processing fee donations, as some states prohibit this practice.
