Emergency Printer Sharing Switch

In case of a network emergency, a USB Printer sharing switch can be used to share one printer between two Registration laptops.

  1. Open the USB Emergency Kit
    1. Contents:
      1. From Printer Box: 2 USB Switches, 4 Black USB A to B cables, 2 Gray USB A to B cables
      2. From Combo Box: 1 USB Switch, 2 Black USB A to B Cables, 1 Gray USB A to B cable
  2. Set up USB "Network"
    1. Connect the gray USB cable to the printer, connect the other end to the USB Switch
    2. Connect the Black USB cables to the Switch, then run one of each cable to the left USB port on each laptop
  3. Configure laptop software
    1. On each laptop, check the taskbar (lower right corner of the screen) for the IOGEAR icon
      1. If this icon is present, right click on it and press Exit
    2. If the icon is not present, press start (windows icon in the lower left corner), find the IOGEAR Auto Printer Sharing Switch program and start it
    3. The icon will now appear in the taskbar, double click on it
    4. From the dropdown box, select "Samsung M2020 Series"
      1. The "Printer-#" names that appear on the list do not work through the printer sharing switch
      2. if the Samsung M2020 Series is not on the list, refer to the troubleshooting section
    5. Press OK
  4. Continue Printer setup and testing as normal

Troubleshooting

The "Samsung M2020 Series" does not appear on the list

  1. Open Control Panel
    1. press start and type "control panel", press enter
  2. Open Devices and Printers
    1. this page displays all installed network printers, new USB printers will appear at the bottom of the list.
    2. Check here for Samsung M2020 Series, or USB Printer#
    3. refresh this page several times, it may take up to 5 minutes for the laptop to recognize the printer
    4. if there is a "USB Printer #" that matches the printer connected to the switch, go back to the IOGEAR Printer Sharing Switch program and select that printer from the dropdown box
    5. Unplug, the plug back in the Black USB cable
      1. if possible, listen for the disconnect and reconnect sounds played by Windows
    6. If the "Samsung M2020 series" appears at the bottom of the page, close the IOGEAR Printer Sharing Switch program by right clicking on it in the taskbar, then relaunch the program and check the dropdown box.
